Our Leadership Team

Good Shepherd Church is led by Pastor Kent Hummel, but it takes a whole family to make everything come together. We want you to get to know us on the personal side so if one of us has similar interests to yours, send him or her an email. We love to make new connections!

Kent Hummel

Why are you involved in church? I ‘m involved in the church because I love Jesus and feel called to lead and care for others that love Him, too.

What are some of your passions? I’m passionate about my wife and sons, my dog Sunny, living each day to the fullest, learning to cope with and even laugh about the craziness of life, about people and the potential in their lives (even those that are currently pretty broken), beautiful sunrises and sunsets and the Rocky Mountains, the Ohio State Buckeyes, jogging, reading the Bible daily, and Jesus Christ!!

What are some of your favorite things? Going for a walk in the morning with my wife and our dog, driving with Shirley to Estes Park for some caramel corn (with nuts), winning at Fantasy Football, serving the Living God, long road trips, golfing and frolfing with my sons, having a great credit score, really good coffee and ice cream, and being alive.

Family? Shirley and I have been married for 36 years, have two grown sons, Zachary and Micah, and a great extended family that mostly lives in northeastern Ohio.

Favorite Books: The Bible (I really mean it), historical novels about the Civil War (especially those written by Michael and Jeffrey Shara).  I like to read books that describe the character of great men and women in history.  I want to know what made them tick.

Favorite Music: All kinds but I’m sort of picky in every area whether it’s classical, rock and roll, country or worship.  I’m a child of the 60′s with all that great music that’s still being played today.   Some of my favorites are Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Brian Doerksen, Third Day, Hillsong, Owl City – musicians and groups that sing with passion, honesty and heart.

Favorite Movies: Cinderella Man, Saving Private Ryan, Open Range, Seabiscuit, Gran Torino, The Book of Eli – you get the picture.  Anything that stirs me to be a good man, to take a stand, and to have a positive impact on those around me!!

Why are you involved in church? I believe that the church can be a place where people can come together to experience in a corporate setting the love and grace of our Heavenly Father. To be able to worship alongside others is amazing and it is also more than amazing to witness when someone ‘gets’ what Jesus really did on the cross for THEM! I know that God has a place for me in the church: to walk alongside the families and children to inspire, support and equip them with tools to grow more as believers, family and individuals in all that God has for them.

What are some of your passions? My husband and kids! I love to read, to have time alone, travel and experience new things!

What are some of your favorite things?
Isn’t this a song?? I don’t know, I do like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens but those aren’t really my favorite things. I think mine would be having coffee with a friend, watching a movie with my family, reading a good book, and keeping my desk cleared off for more than one week…or a day!

Family? I have the most wonderful husband, Brian, who makes me laugh and encourages me to not take life so serious. He is also my #1 volunteer in ministry. We have two amazing teenage daughters, Shannyn and Ashlyn.

Favorite Books: I love suspense-type books; my favorite author of late is Steven James. I also like books that reveal more of who God is, books that lead me into more intimacy with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Favorite Music: If you can give me a little hip-hop that would be great! As far as worship music goes, it varies – I just want to engage with the Lord.

Favorite Movies:
My all-time favorite animated movie is “Finding Nemo.” I don’t know, there are so many different types and movies that it is hard to nail down a “favorite.”

Why are you involved in church? I first got involved in church right after graduating from high school. Loveland has never had a great social or spiritual scene for young people, so I volunteered to start up college ministry at Good Shepherd. This developed into an internship that lasted beyond my college years. I left Good Shepherd in 2002 to attend Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary for my masters, praying God would allow me to return to my home church. This happened early in 2007 when I was asked to become our Student Ministries Pastor. God continues to fuel my passion for himself, for raising up young leaders, and for sharing the hope of Jesus with the next generation.

What are some of your favorite things? I am an avid reader. I love going out on dates with my wife or hanging out with friends over coffee.

Family? I’ve been married to my wife, Angie for 10 years!! She was 15 years old when we started dating. I was 17. Today, she’s a teacher at Ivy Stockwell Elementary. She also loves young people and volunteers in every area of student ministries.

Favorite books: The Bible (God), Crazy Love (Chan), Discipleship (Bonhoeffer), Do Hard Things (Harris), Don’t Waste Your Life (Piper), Institutes (Calvin), Religious Affections (Edwards), Tribes (Godin)

Favorite music: Techno dance party, but don’t ask me to get my groove on because this pastor still can’t dance.

Favorite shows: Chuck, Psyche, Monk, Arrested Development, Broncos games

Joshua Hendrix

Why are you involved in church? Well, I’m involved in church because I work in a church.  Just kidding. : ) I have a heart to serve God, and church is a great place to join with others on this journey.

What are some of your passions? My passions include drums, guitar, and most kinds of music.  I also have a passion to go into the deeper things the Lord calls us too.  I’m not satisfied with the status quo, and think “the church” needs to passionately go deeper with the Lord. If all we’re doing is having “Great Services” where no one’s life is changed, we’re missing the mark!  I should also mention that I love basketball, golf, snow skiing and volleyball.

What are some of your favorite things? I’d have to give a shout out to my DW Drums, my Strat, and my Egnator amp.  These are a few of my favorite THINGS!

Family? My family includes my beautiful wife Amber of 10+ years, little man Anderson, and sweet baby girl Eden.  I personally believe all people are crazy, and it only takes five minutes around a child to see it.  Children let you see the crazy in us all.

Favorite Books: I don’t have many favorite books.  I loved The Shack, but I mostly read inspirational like Bill Johnson.  Not a big fan of reading fiction, cause I’d rather watch the movie!!

Favorite Music: I like such a diverse set of music, it’s too hard to pick a favorite.  My favorite changes from day to day.  My favorite styles are Blues and Rock.

Favorite Movies: Some of my favorite movies are Mr. Deeds, Happy Gilmore, Braveheart, and The Matrix.  There are many more!!! I love movies.
