Fast Day 7

Good afternoon!

Well we’re not quite yet at the “home stretch” in our Ten Day Liquid Fast, but Monday starts a new week and the end is in sight. Getting through the weekend feels to me like we’ve turned a corner, so I want to do that as well in what I share with you today.

“I humbled my soul with fasting.” That’s a little phrase King David uses in Psalm 35:13 (NASB) that has really opened my understanding as to what fasting accomplishes. Here’s what I believe the Lord has shown me through that little phrase. Your soul consists of three parts: your mind (what you think); your will (what you decide to do); and your emotions (what  & how you feel.) If you think of life as a tug of war your soul “sits” between your spirit (the God part of you), and your flesh (the not God part.) There is a constant battle going on for who will control your soul – God, or you (strongly influenced by the world & the devil.) A part of what fasting accomplishes is a submission of your flesh, so that you become more attuned & submissive toyour spirit, AND the Holy Spirit.

Fasting helps you to think in a more Godly way. Fasting helps you to have an easier time being obedient. Finally, fasting help your emotions line up more accurately with the truth. When you think about these three area combined, can you see how they can greatly impact your faith? They do, and faith is a real key to gaining victory!!

I hope this brings some revelation to you. You may need to spend some time pondering what I’ve written so that it soaks in deeply to your heart. That would be a great thing for you to do sometime today… when you’re not eating. For me, as I thought about King David’s words, it not only gave me insight, it also forged within me a new determination. Seeing the great benefits of fasting made the sacrifice truly worth it!!

Grace Be Yours Today,

P.K.
