LEADERSHIP TEAM

Good Shepherd Church is led by Pastor Kent Hummel, but it takes a whole family to make everything come together. We want you to get to know us on the personal side so if one of us has similar interests to yours, send him or her an email. We love to make new connections!

Why are you involved in church?

As a follower of Jesus I believe I am called to be an active part of the church.  I am involved in Good Shepherd Church because it’s good for me and I think being around God’s people pleases God.

What are some of your passions?

Following Jesus, experiencing and sharing the love that God the Father has for us, enjoying Colorful Colorado, my wife and sons, Ohio State football, Cleveland Indian baseball, and life in general.

What are some of your favorite things?

Walks with my wife, jogging, trips to Estes Park, Masterpiece Theater, my dog Sunny, long road trips, strong coffee and early morning God time.

Family?

Shirley and I have been married for over 40 years, have two grown sons, Zachary and Micah, and a great extended family that mostly lives in northeastern Ohio.

Favorite Books:

I like to read books that describe the character of great men and women in history.  I want to know what made them tick.  Books like “Bonhoeffer” and “Unbroken” are favorites of mine.

Favorite Music:

I don’t listen to music that often but when I do I like Oldies (60’s and 70’s), classical, and “good” worship.

Favorite Movies:

Just saw “Jungle Book” and thought it was really good.  Probably my most watched movie ever other than Christmas classics (Wonderful Life, White Christmas, etc.) is “What About Bob” with Bill Murray.  I guess that says a lot about me!

Why are you involved in church?

I believe that the church can be a place where people can come together to experience in a corporate setting the love and grace of our Heavenly Father. To be able to worship alongside others is amazing and it is also more than amazing to witness when someone ‘gets’ what Jesus really did on the cross for THEM! I know that God has a place for me in the church: to walk alongside the families and children to inspire, support and equip them with tools to grow more as believers, family and individuals in all that God has for them.

What are some of your passions?

My husband and kids! I love to read, to have time alone, travel and experience new things!

What are some of your favorite things? Isn’t this a song?? I don’t know, I do like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens but those aren’t really my favorite things. I think mine would be having coffee with a friend, watching a movie with my family, reading a good book, and keeping my desk cleared off for more than one week…or a day!

Family?

I have the most wonderful husband, Brian, who makes me laugh and encourages me to not take life so serious. He is also my #1 volunteer in ministry. We have two amazing daughters, Shannyn and Ashlyn.

Favorite Books:

I love suspense-type books; my favorite author of late is Steven James. I also like books that reveal more of who God is, books that lead me into more intimacy with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Favorite Music:

If you can give me a little hip-hop that would be great! As far as worship music goes, it varies – I just want to engage with the Lord.

Favorite Movies:

My all-time favorite animated movie is “Finding Nemo.” I don’t know, there are so many different types and movies that it is hard to nail down a “favorite.”

WHY ARE YOU INVOLVED IN CHURCH?

I met Jesus in this very youth group when I was in High School. God has taken me on quite the adventure where I initially came to church chasing some girl. We love serving as a team and through that service, God directed our path to full time ministry and we could not be more excited!!!

Why are you involved in church?

I have always felt like church was home and I have loved being a part of that aspect of God’s plan for this world. I really never thought that I would never actually work at a church but, apparently, the Lord had other plans.

What are some of your passions?

I am passionate about seeing the Lord in everyday life and things. I really love showing the love of God by having fun. While living for Christ should not always be easy it is important to have fun in all the wonderful things God has blessed us with. I am also passionate about unifying the Body of Christ. Not just in our church but also with other churches throughout our city and the world. I feel the world can better be reached through a Body united in Love and Peace for Christ.

What are some of your favorite things?

I love trivia! Not only answering questions but also creating them. I also love the Cleveland Browns with a fiery passion. I love playing almost any game. I love spending time with my awesome family and good friends. Oh, and food.

Family?

I have my best friend and perfect partner in my wife Annie. We also have a wonderful son who brings a smile to all who meet him, Abraham. He is one year old.

Favorite Books:

Till We Have Faces, Wheel of Time Series, Ender Series, and the Bible.

Favorite Music:
Most 90’s and early 00’s music make me smile. Plus a lot of weird stuff.
Favorite Movies:

 Too many to list :-)

WORSHIP PASTOR

WHY ARE YOU INVOLVED IN CHURCH?

I love the community we build when we all come together to sing to God, learn His truths, and connect with each other. God created us to be relational beings -both with Him and with each other- and I believe the Church (not just the building!) is one of the most important communities of which we will ever be a part!

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR PASSIONS?

Over the last few years I have developed a deep concern for those outside the walls of the church -the broken, the disenfranchised, and the hurt. I believe it is our responsibility to be a loving, kind voice to those we encounter in our daily lives, especially those who “don’t do the whole church thing.” Good Shepherd’s model of incarnational ministry and relating to people in everyday situations aptly sums up my passion and heart to meet and love on people in the places we find them, not just inside the walls of the church building on a Sunday morning.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS?

I’m a complete music theory nerd, and my wife and I are really into musical theatre. Growing up in the midwest, I love Detroit Tigers baseball, the University of Michigan Wolverines, and (dare I say it around here) the Red Wings. Colorado is God’s country, but he roots for Michigan sports.

FAMILY?

I am married to the best gal I know. Elizabeth and I started dating in college because of a musical we were cast in together. We played a married couple on stage and liked it so much we decided to do it in real life! We have a cat, Charlotte, and she’s a chronic sneezer.

FAVORITE BOOKS:

While I’m not a huge reader, Leadershift by Don Cousins is a great read for shaping our approach to volunteer ministry. One of my favorite books was my music theory textbook from college. I’ve got a book on audio mixing I’m really digging as well. In case you wondered how deep the whole “nerdy rabbit hole” went, there you have it.

FAVORITE MUSIC:

Anything with a groove! Top 40, jazz, blues, I like it all! Favorite Artists include Elevation Worship, Rhett Walker Band, Carrolton, Bruno Mars, Mumford and Sons, and Skrillex.

FAVORITE MOVIES:

Top 5 movies, in no particular order: O Brother Where Art Thou, The Prestige, Interstellar, Inception, and The Producers.
