LEADERSHIP TEAM

Good Shepherd Church is led by Pastor Kent Hummel, but it takes a whole family to make everything come together. We want you to get to know us on the personal side so if one of us has similar interests to yours, send him or her an email. We love to make new connections!

Why are you involved in church?

As a follower of Jesus I believe I am called to be an active part of the church.  I am involved in Good Shepherd Church because it’s good for me and I think being around God’s people pleases God.

What are some of your passions?

Following Jesus, experiencing and sharing the love that God the Father has for us, enjoying Colorful Colorado, my wife and sons, Ohio State football, Cleveland Indian baseball, and life in general.

Family?

Shirley and I have been married for over 40 years, have two grown sons, Zachary and Micah, and a great extended family that mostly lives in northeastern Ohio.

Favorite Books:

I like to read books that describe the character of great men and women in history.  I want to know what made them tick.  Books like “Bonhoeffer” and “Unbroken” are favorites of mine.

Favorite Music:

I don’t listen to music that often but when I do I like Oldies (60’s and 70’s), classical, and “good” worship.

Favorite Movies:

Just saw “Jungle Book” and thought it was really good.  Probably my most watched movie ever other than Christmas classics (Wonderful Life, White Christmas, etc.) is “What About Bob” with Bill Murray.  I guess that says a lot about me!

WHY ARE YOU INVOLVED IN CHURCH?

I met Jesus in this very youth group when I was in High School. God has taken me on quite the adventure where I initially came to church chasing some girl. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR PASSIONS?

I have an extreme amount of excitement and belief that this generation will do amazing things and I cannot wait to see what the kids in our church family go on to do for Christ's kingdom. I am passionate about loving my wife and my children well! As a family, we have been involved with fostering children and we want to see the current state of foster care changed in our county!!!

WHY ARE YOU INVOLVED IN CHURCH?

The Church is a family, really. Anyone who calls Jesus their Lord and Savior is our brother or sister in Christ. So, it's vitally important for this family to regularly spend time together. At GSC we respond to God through music, His Word, and community, and I love being a part of it! Finding encouragement and community in our local church helps us to bring the power of Christ out into the world, and GSC is a wonderful place to do so!

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR PASSIONS?

Of course I love music, but I also love theatre. On stage (with my talented wife), drumming in the pit, sound designing, or heck, handing out playbills... I love it all! Theatre is a special and unique art form that communicates to us all differently, yet brings us together. Plus, I love me a good Sondheim show.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS?

Frasier, Chinese food, music theory, the University of Michigan Wolverines football, any Detroit sports team, The Office (US), WWII history, shavette shaving, anything with garlic in it, and burritos.

FAMILY?

I'm married to Liz, my scene partner, band member, and favorite person. We have a border collie and blue heeler mix named Daphne, with ice blue eyes, the need to be touching a human every waking minute, and an unquenchable desire to play fetch. We also have Charlotte the extremely cuddly and chronically projectile sneezing cat.

FAVORITE BOOKS:

Reclaiming The Atonement by Patrick Henry Reardon; Jesus Have I Loved, But Paul?: A Narrative Approach to the Problem of Pauline Christianity by J.R. Daniel Kirk; and the New Humanity Institute blog: newhumanityinstitute.wordpress.com
